Beth vive sola en su apartamento en el este de Londres. Está harta de los ruidosos vecinos, más aún desde que la señal de su televisión se ha ido y no tiene mucho qué hacer. El silencio de su hogar contrasta con el ambiente molesto y desordenado del edificio habitado por personas de otras culturas. Se queja con algunos vecinos pero no entienden su marcado acento inglés o simplemente no toleran a una anciana problemática. A nadie le importa, son extraños, o tal vez lo sea ella. En un último intento llama a la policía. Todo empeora, el vecindario le hace saber que ese no es su edificio. Se refugia en su soledad, no puede cambiar la realidad del lugar en el que vive. Finalmente puede compartir sus dilemas con el empleado de la empresa de cable que viene a reparar la señal: en otra época su vecindario era mucho mejor.
Beth lives alone in her apartment in East London. She is fed up with her noisy neighbors, even more so since her TV signal has gone out and she doesn t have much to do. The silence of her home contrasts with the noisy and disorderly atmosphere of the building inhabited by people from other cultures. She complains to some of her neighbors, but they don t understand her strong English accent or simply can t tolerate a troublesome old woman. No one cares; they are strangers, or perhaps she is. In a last-ditch attempt, she calls the police. Everything gets worse; the neighborhood lets her know that this is not her building. She takes refuge in her solitude, unable to change the reality of where she lives. Finally, she is able to share her dilemmas with the cable company employee who comes to repair the signal: in the past, her neighborhood was much better.
